Oregon’s Travel Lane County plans to celebrate the grand opening of its Adventure Center this month, in addition to launching its new slogan: “Real Adventures. Real Close.”
Located in the Eugene–Springfield metro area, the center will provide visitors with assistance in navigating area accommodations, restaurants, shopping districts, wineries, events, nature trails and other attractions.
The center’s interactive features, including a display with a McKenzie River drift boat and topographic tabletop maps for trip planning, incorporate the area’s landscapes and recreational offerings.

The Ritz-Carlton Dove Mountain has opened in Marana, Arizona, 30 miles northwest of Tuscon. The hotel, which faces the Tortolita Mountains, features 250 guest rooms and more than 44,000 square feet of indoor-outdoor meeting space. The property’s 850 acres mean guests can enjoy a wide array of outdoor activities including hiking on 20 miles of trails, mountain biking through a cactus forest, guided desert Jeep tours and even organized cattle drives.
Located 20 miles northwest of Atlanta, the Embassy Suites/Atlanta– Kennesaw Town Center recently opened with 192 guest suites, 7,000 square feet of meeting space and a Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse.
In Atlantic City, a non-casino event space called One Atlantic has opened above the Pier Shops at Caesars. The venue, home to 10,000 square feet of indoor space and a 2,000-square-foot outdoor terrace, rises 80 feet above the Atlantic Ocean and extends 100 yards over the water.
The Maxwell Hotel has opened adjacent to the Seattle Center in downtown Seattle. The new hotel features 140 guest rooms, an indoor pool, an exercise facility, an espresso bar, retail space and 1,600 square feet of meeting space.
The Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare Hotel & Convention Center, located in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont, has completed a renovation of its 503 guest rooms and suites, which feature wireless Internet access and new furniture, fixtures and finishes. The property offers 55,000 square feet of event space, including 22 breakout rooms and a ballroom for up to 3,000 people.
The Paradise Point Resort & Spa in San Diego has completed a $20 million renovation of its 462 guest rooms (which are all individual cottages) and its 35,000 square feet of meeting facilities. The Paradise Point Resort has a South Pacific motif, and the meeting space—which includes 29 meeting rooms and three ballrooms—features wood ceilings, stone flooring and rattan and bamboo accents.

The Hilton University of Houston Hotel & Conference Center has named Fernando Cuéllar as its general manager. Cuéllar, who has almost 40 years of experience in the hotel and hospitality industry, was previously general manager of the Lancaster Hotel in downtown Houston.
Michael McGilligan has been named general manager of the Hilton/ Dallas-Lincoln Centre. McGilligan has served as general manager of the Embassy Suites/San Diego-La Jolla for the past three years.
Jonathan Heath has been named general manager of the new W Retreat & Spa on Vieques Island, Puerto Rico, scheduled to open March 18. Heath previously served as the opening general manager of the Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs, California.
One Bal Harbour Resort & Spa, located in the village of Bal Harbour, Florida, has made two new appointments. Erin Hosler has been named general manager and corporate director of branding and operations, and Debra Klemm has been named director of sales and marketing. Hosler previously served as general manager of the now-closed Hotel QT in New York City. Klemm was previously regional director of entertainment sales for the Standard Spa and the Raleigh Hotel, both in Miami Beach, Florida.
Denise Banks has been promoted to vice-president of sales, meetings and conventions at the Grand Sierra Resort & Casino in Reno, Nevada. Banks, most recently the property’s vice-president of meetings and conventions, has been working at Grand Sierra since 1980 and has held several key management positions there.
In Fort Lauderdale, the Westin Beach Resort and the newly renovated Sheraton Fort Lauderdale Beach Hotel (formerly the Sheraton Yankee Trader and the Sheraton Yankee Clipper, respectively) have appointed David Wahba as complex director of sales and marketing. Wahba, who has worked at the hotels in the past, was previously director of sales and marketing at the Westin Resort/Aruba.

The Peoria Area (Illinois) Convention & Visitors Bureau has named Bob Marx president and CEO. Marx was previously the opening general manager for Marriott’s Fairfield Inn & Suites in Gadsden, Alabama. His background also includes serving as director of marketing for the San Jose (California) Convention & Visitors Bureau and president and CEO of the Bakersfield (California) Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Aradia Zenobia has been appointed executive director of the newly formed New River Valley (Virginia) Convention & Visitors Bureau, which is based in Blacksburg, Virginia, and represents Montgomery County. Zenobia was formerly acting president of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce.
Karrie Burns has been appointed executive director of the Monroeville (Pennsylvania) Convention & Visitors Bureau. Burns was the general manager of the Monroeville Courtyard by Marriott. She succeeds the interim director, Donna Bour, who was filling in following the departure of the organization’s former executive director, Sandra Rice.
The Greater Springfield (Massachusetts) Convention & Visitors Bureau has appointed Amy Vieceli as convention center sales manager, where she will be responsible for marketing the MassMutual Center. Vieceli spent the past three years as a sales manager for the Sheraton Springfield Monarch Place Hotel. Prior to that, she was a manager at Pintore Catering in Hartford, Connecticut.

L.A. Live, the new $2.5 billion sports and entertainment development in downtown Los Angeles, will soon see the opening of two options for lodging: the J.W. Marriott Hotel Los Angeles at L.A. Live and the Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles. The J.W. Marriott is scheduled to open February 15 with 878 guest rooms, and the Ritz-Carlton is slated to open March 15 with 123 guest rooms. They will share space in a 54-story tower near the L.A. Convention Center and the Staples Center.
The J.W. Marriott will offer a wine bar, a cocktail lounge, a coffee bar, a fitness center with an outdoor pool, a rooftop bar, and a restaurant.
The Ritz-Carlton will share its 8,000-square-foot spa with guests at the J.W. Marriott and will offer a club lounge, a lobby lounge, a signature restaurant, a fitness center and an outdoor pool.
The nearly 100,000 square feet of meeting space will be housed in the Gallery Collection, which is connected to both hotels. Included in the space are three ballrooms—the 25,086-square-foot Diamond Ballroom, the 20,792-square-foot Platinum Ballroom, and the 17,072-square-foot Gold Ballroom—nine meeting rooms and three boardrooms.

A new iPhone app has been developed specifically for associations and other member-based organizations. Called “yourApp” and launched by YourMembership.com, a provider of online member communities and membership-management software, the app allows associations to customize their own mobile applications for Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch.
Members can then use their organization’s app to search for and contact fellow members; view member profiles; access messaging centers; upload photos and view photo galleries; and view their organization’s blog, among other things.

The new Verdanza Hotel (formerly the Holiday Inn/San Juan) has opened in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The property offers 222 guest rooms, three restaurants, personal bike-taxi service to the beach and more than 15,000 square feet of event space.
The 216-suite Embassy Suites/Houston Energy Corridor has opened on the west side of the city near the area’s major businesses and attractions, which include golf courses, shopping and the Houston Zoo. The hotel has 7,000 square feet of meeting space, a restaurant, a pool and a fitness center.
The Waldorf Astoria Orlando has opened on 482 acres in Florida and is the first Waldorf Astoria to be built outside of New York. The hotel is surrounded on three sides by the Walt Disney World Resort and features 497 guest rooms, a spa, fitness center, pool with private cabanas, dining options , golf and a business center. Event space includes the 27,376-square-foot Floridian Ballroom, the 8,110-square foot Grand Ballroom, and several meeting rooms starting at 419 square feet.
Also in Florida, the Holiday Inn/Walt Disney World Resort is slated to open this month following a $35 million makeover. The hotel, which is located within the resort grounds, offers 323 upgraded guest rooms, a business center and 11,161 square feet of event space. It also has a heated pool.
In San Antonio, the new Holiday Inn/Northwest–SeaWorld has opened with 194 guest rooms and 6,000 square feet of meeting and event space. The hotel, designed in Hill Country style, also offers three dining options and both indoor and outdoor pools.
In Key West, Florida, the Sheraton Suites/Key West recently completed a property-wide renovation, which resulted in an upgraded entrance and lobby, restaurant, fitness center, outdoor pool area and 180 guest suites. The hotel also redecorated its 1,100 square feet of meeting space.
The Enchantment Resort in Sedona, Arizona, has upgraded and expanded its meeting space. It now offers 13,000 square feet of indoor event space—more than half of which is new and all of which now features Southwestern décor and floor-to-ceiling windows—and 20,000 square feet of outdoor banquet space. The meeting space upgrade is the first phase of a $20 million renovation scheduled to take place over the next three years.
The Hilton/New York, located in Midtown Manhattan, has completed a $1 million refurbishment of its Trianon and Mercury ballrooms. The upgraded space, which totals more than 15,000 square feet, features new wall coverings, carpeting, furnishings and fixtures, including a new lighting concept in the Mercury Ballroom’s Rotunda that uses imagery and computer-programmable lights to create “live art.” The hotel has 1,980 guest rooms and more than 151,000 square feet of dedicated event space.
The 319-room Newport Marriott, located in the historic harbor area of Newport, Rhode Island, recently renovated its 24,800 square feet of meeting space. Rooms have been repainted; there are new carpets, lighting fixtures and refurbished bathrooms and hallways; and a state-of-the-art video conferencing system was installed.

David Monahan has been appointed CEO and general manager at the Las Vegas Hilton. Monahan served previously as senior vice-president of Colony Capital, a real estate investment firm and owner and operator of the Las Vegas Hilton. Prior to that, he held executive-level positions with ITT Sheraton and InterContinental Hotels Group.
Thomas McCartney has been appointed president of the Tropicana Las Vegas, the historic hotel and casino located on the Strip that is currently undergoing a multimillion-dollar renovation. McCartney was most recently president and CEO of the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
Kemp Gallineau has been promoted from senior vice-president and general manager of Kissimmee, Florida’s Gaylord Palms Hotel & Convention Center to senior vice-president and chief sales officer for Gaylord Hotels. Gallineau first joined Gaylord Hotels in 2001. Prior to his position at the Palms, he was vice-president and general manager of the Gaylord Opryland in Nashville.
Jeff Protzman has been appointed general manager of the Hilton/Salt Lake City Center. Protzman has spent the past 20 years with Doubletree, most recently serving as general manager for the Doubletree/Anaheim-Orange County in Southern California. He has also served as general manager for Southern California’s Doubletree Guest Suites Santa Monica Hotel and the Doubletree/San Pedro.
Malia Osterbauer has joined the Portofino Hotel & Yacht Club in Redondo Beach, California, as its new general manager. Osterbauer has more than 15 years of experience in the hotel industry and was previously the director of resort operations/assistant general manager for the Hilton San Diego Resort & Spa.
The new Miyako Hybrid Hotel in Torrance, California, has appointed Cherie Davis as general manager. Davis was most recently general manager of the Hotel Maya in Long Beach, California, and has opened seven hotels over the course of her 25-year career.
Hedy Varga has been appointed group sales manager for the Canary Hotel in Santa Barbara. Varga was previously senior account executive at Hospitality Performance Network. Prior to that, she was national sales manager for the Beverly Hilton, the Century Plaza Hotel & Spa and the Ritz-Carlton, Marina del Rey, in Southern California.

Dottie Gallagher-Cohen has been named president and CEO of the Buffalo Niagara (New York) Convention & Visitors Bureau. Gallagher-Cohen served most recently as senior vice-president of The Buffalo News, where she worked for 13 years. She succeeds Richard Geiger, who led the Buffalo Niagara bureau for 14 years and was recently appointed the head of Visit Winston-Salem (North Carolina).
The Jackson-Madison County (Tennessee) Convention & Visitors Bureau has named Lori Nunnery executive director. Nunnery previously worked as project manager for the Jackson Downtown Development Corporation. She succeeds Colleen Coury, who is now executive director of the Sumner County (Tennessee) Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Richard Goldman has been named executive director of the St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra & The Beaches (Florida) Visitors & Convention Bureau. Goldman, who serves on the executive board for Visit Florida and is immediate vice-chair of the Florida Commission on Tourism, was most recently senior vice-president and chief marketing officer of Florida’s Amelia Island Plantation Resort.
The St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission has appointed Nicholas Langella as senior vice-president and general manager of the city’s America’s Center. Langella was previously senior vice-president of arena business and operations at the TD Garden in Boston.
The Wilmington/Cape Fear Coast (North Carolina) Convention & Visitors Bureau has made two new appointments. Shawn Braden has been appointed executive vice-president of marketing. Braden, previously a sales and marketing consultant, has served in senior-level sales and marketing-management positions at the Greater Raleigh Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Lexington (Kentucky) Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau. And John Sneed has been appointed convention sales manager of the Wilmington Convention Center, expected to open this fall. Sneed’s sales background includes positions at the Clarion Hotel Airport in Greensboro and the High Point Convention & Visitors Bureau, both in North Carolina.
In the Caribbean, the St. Lucia Tourist Board has appointed Nerdin St. Rose to the new position of vice-president of marketing and sales. St. Rose worked previously for Bornewell Marketing Ltd., a marketing and public relations firm she founded in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Larry Kaufman has been appointed vice-president of sales at the San Diego North Convention & Visitors Bureau. He spent the past six years as area director of sales and marketing for three Southern California properties: the Paradise Point Resort & Spa and the Hilton San Diego Resort & Spa, both in San Diego, and the Palm Springs Riviera Resort & Spa, in Palm Springs.
The Bryan-College Station (Texas) Convention & Visitors Bureau has named Kindra Fry director of group sales. Fry was previously the bureau’s director of sports; her position has been expanded to include convention sales.

The JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa is scheduled to open this month on 600 acres just 20 minutes from downtown San Antonio and the airport in the Texas Hill Country. The resort offers 1,002 guest rooms with views of the property’s terrain of rolling hills dotted with oak trees and creeks. Event space at the resort totals more than 140,000 square feet and features the latest in audiovisual technology. • The Georgia Society of Association Executives (GSAE) has honored Joe Brannen, CAE, of the Georgia Bankers Association, with the Clifford M. Clarke Award, the organization’s highest honor. Brannen was given the award at the group’s December 16 holiday luncheon and awards show.
• The GSAE also elected a new board of directors. • The New England Society of Association Executives is scheduled to hold its Annual Management Conference January 21–22 at the Sheraton/Boston. The event plans to include education sessions and speakers, networking opportunities, exhibits and a “traffic-enhancing bingo card.” • The Texas Society of Association Executives, together with the Texas Hill Country Chapter of Meeting Professionals International and the Central Texas Chapter of the International Association of Exhibitions & Events, is scheduled to hold its 2010 Southwest Showcase on February 4 at the Austin Convention Center. The day-long event is slated to include an educational breakfast, two keynote speakers and a 175-booth trade show.
• The Arizona Society of Association Executives held its Holiday Gala & Awards Dinner on December 8 at the Carefree Resort & Villas in the town of Carefree. Award winners included Carol Stambaugh, CAE, of the Arizona Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, who was named Executive of the Year.

Defying any preconceived notions that state associations don’t travel far for their meetings, the Hawaii Convention Center has partnered with the New York Society of Association Executives (NYSAE) in an effort to draw meetings from the third-largest association market in the United States—even if they are a continent and an ocean away. Under the alliance, the convention center will be the exclusive partner of the NYSAE’s monthly luncheon this month and will be featured prominently during other NYSAE events, including the Meet NY seminars, slated for March 10 at the Millennium Hotel in Manhattan.

Tom McKenney has been appointed general manager of the Boston Marriott Newton Hotel. McKenney has served in leadership positions for Marriott for 20 years and was most recently general manager of the Rochester Marriott Mayo Clinic Area in Minnesota. Prior to that, he served as director of operations at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott in Virginia.
Deborah McCluskey has been appointed general manager of the new Ink48, a Kimpton Hotel (formerly the Vu Hotel) in Midtown Manhattan near the Javits Center. McCluskey previously served as general manager of the Empire Hotel, also in New York City.
David Rijos has been named general manager of The Shores Resort & Spa, located in Daytona Beach Shores, Florida. He has served as general manager at several hotels, including the Embassy Suites/ Dallas–Park Central Area and the Doubletree Guest Suites Hotel Nashville.
The Doubletree/Anaheim–Orange County, located in Orange, California, has named Denise Pflum as its general manager. Pflum served most recently as general manager of the Doubletree Guest Suites Doheny Beach in Dana Point, California.
Succeeding Pflum as general manager of Doubletree Guest Suites Doheny Beach is Robert Michael Koscelnik. Koscelnik served previously as the director of operations for the Hilton/Orange County–Costa Mesa in Southern California.
The Clift Hotel in San Francisco has made two new appointments: David Curell as general manager and Diane Wesley as director of marketing. Curell most recently served as general manager of the Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica, California, and Wesley was previously director of sales and marketing at San Francisco’s Hotel Vitale.
The Omni Mount Washington Resort & Hotel in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, has named Larry Magor as managing director and Barry Sondern as resort general manager. Magor previously served as managing director of the Wyndham Bermuda Resort & Spa, which closed in 2006, and the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort & Spa in St. Thomas, the U.S. Virgin Islands. Sondern, who has been with Omni Hotels since 1992, was previously hotel manager of the Watermark Hotel & Spa in San Antonio. The Resort at The Mountain, located at the western base of Oregon’s Mount Hood, has named Debra Scholl director of sales. Scholl was most recently director of sales at Hotel Jerome, a Rock Resorts property in Aspen, Colorado. Prior to that, she was regional sales director at La Quinta Resort & Club in La Quinta, California. In Branson, Missouri, the Chateau on the Lake Resort, Spa & Convention Center has appointed two new sales managers: Molly Lieberknecht and Brad Duncan. Lieberknecht has more than 25 years of hospitality experience and was most recently manager of global accounts for HelmsBriscoe. Prior to that, she was director of catering for Culinaire International, a food and beverage company. Duncan was previously a sales representative for Wyndham Vacation Ownership. Prior to that, he was the front office manager for the Adolphus Hotel in Dallas.

The Peoria (Illinois) Convention & Visitors Bureau has appointed Rick Edwards acting CEO after the resignation of president and CEO Brent Lonteen, who led the Peoria bureau for the past three years. Edwards is the bureau’s chairman and also works for Caterpillar Inc.
Tamara Pigott has been named interim executive director of the Lee County (Florida) Visitor & Convention Bureau following the resignation of Executive Director Suya Davenport. Davenport, who served at the bureau for two and a half years, cited a desire to return to the private sector to work with hotels. A search for her permanent successor is under way.
Bethany Stephens has resigned from her position as executive vice-president of the Rogers-Lowell Area (Arkansas) Chamber of Commerce. She now serves as executive director of the Ozark Natural Science Center in Huntsville, Arkansas.
Tracy Panton has stepped down as director of tourism for the Belize Tourism Board. Panton had worked for the organization for the last 12 years. Her successor has yet to be named.
Seattle’s Convention & Visitors Bureau has promoted Jerri Lane to senior vice-president of sales and marketing. Lane was previously the bureau’s vice-president of convention sales. Her background also includes time serving as director of sales and marketing for the Westin/Seattle and the Sheraton/Seattle. David West has been named vice-president of marketing and sales at the Pocono Mountains (Pennsylvania) Visitors Bureau. West served previously as marketing director of the Bucks County Conference & Visitors Bureau, also in Pennsylvania. He succeeds Gail Sterrett, who passed away unexpectedly last year.
Monica Robinson has been named director of diversity sales at the Little Rock Convention & Visitors Bureau in Arkansas. Robinson served most recently as director of event services for the Fabulous Fox Theatre in St. Louis. She has also held positions in sales and marketing at the Renaissance Grand and Ritz-Carlton hotels in St. Louis.
The Utah Valley Convention & Visitors Bureau has promoted Julia Currey from sales manager to senior sales manager for corporate, association and group-tour business. Prior to joining the bureau, Currey served as the events director for the Provo/Orem Chamber of Commerce (now the Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce). The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau has named Marti Tejada as convention sales manager. Her sales background includes positions with the Sheraton Bal Harbour Beach Resort in Bal Harbour, Florida, the Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Miami and the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach.

The Miyako Hybrid Hotel has opened in Torrance, California. The “hybrid” hotel features a number of eco-friendly elements, including 97 solar panels on the roof, tankless water heaters and the use of local and recycled materials. The 208 guest rooms include Japanese-style oversized baths and separate showers, plus high-speed Internet access. The hotel’s nearly 5,000 square feet of meeting space can accommodate groups of up to 200 people, and its Gonpachi restaurant can seat 180.
The Hyatt Regency Curaçao Golf Resort, Spa & Marina is scheduled to open this month on the southeastern side of the Caribbean island. Property features include 350 guest rooms, access to white-sand beaches, a 4,500-square-foot spa, three pools, tennis courts, a fitness center, an 18-hole championship golf course and a restaurant. For meetings, the resort offers 18,500 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space, including a 5,782-square-foot ballroom, three breakout rooms and a boardroom. The Embassy Suites/Columbus-Airport has opened in Ohio with 198 guest suites and 12,000 square feet of event space with audiovisual capabilities. Other features of the seven-story hotel include a restaurant, fitness center, and heated indoor pool. In Southern California, the Hyatt Regency Suites/Palm Springs has completed a top-to-bottom renovation that transformed all guest suites, public spaces, business facilities, dining venues and pool areas. The renovation also included the addition of new meeting rooms; the property now features more than 12,000 square feet of event space for groups of up to 275.
Caesars Palace in Las Vegas has opened an additional 110,000 square feet of meeting space, bringing the 3,460-room property’s total meeting space to more than 300,000 square feet. The expansion consists of two 52,000-square-foot ballrooms, an outdoor terrace and new meeting rooms and boardrooms. The 1,220-room Sheraton/Boston has opened a new 7,000-square-foot meeting space on its fifth floor with environmentally friendly features. The space offers 2,000 square feet of pre-function space, two break areas, a lounge with wireless Internet access and two computer terminals, as well as ergonomic workspaces, natural lighting, purified water and office supplies made from recycled materials. Groups can also request sustainable menus.
The Ko’a Kea Hotel & Resort on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai has completed a multimillion-dollar renovation. The property offers 121 redesigned guest rooms, a new restaurant and a new spa. The property offers a 620-square-foot boardroom that can accommodate 12 people with board meeting furniture or 24 people with three round tables. The Salish Lodge & Spa in Snoqualmie, Washington, has renovated its 89 guest rooms, aiming to enhance their lodge-like feel with new furniture, carpets, bedding and décor inspired by the Pacific Northwest heritage. For meetings, the property has five dedicated rooms, including the 2,052-square-foot Salish Ballroom.

• Keith Bura, CAE, has been named chief financial and operating officer for the Association Forum of Chicagoland. Bura replaces the Forum’s COO Pamela Schroeder, CAE, and longtime director of finance and chief financial officer, Joan Carney, CAE, who retired on October 29. The new 18-million-square-foot urban metropolis, CityCenter, will open this month on the Las Vegas Strip. The development will feature three hotels, residential buildings, and a shopping and entertainment area.
CityCenter’s ARIA Resort & Casino will offer casual and fine dining, a spa, and a resident Elvis Presley–themed Cirque du Soleil production. Its 300,000-square-foot convention facility will feature four ballrooms and 38 meeting rooms.
One of two non-gaming and non-smoking hotels at CityCenter, the Mandarin Oriental/Las Vegas, will offer an additional 12,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 7,650-square-foot ballroom. The 47-story hotel will also feature fine dining, a spa and salon, fitness center, swimming pools, and a Sky Lobby on the 23rd floor.
Vdara, also a non-gaming and non-smoking hotel, will feature 1,495 guest suites; a spa and fitness complex; restaurant; lobby lounge; and pool area with a bar. The hotel’s 10,000 square feet of event space can accommodate up to 400 people.
A fourth hotel, The Harmon, is scheduled to open in late 2010 and will offer 400 luxury guest rooms, a restaurant, salon, spa and 17,500 square feet of event space.
The development’s shopping and entertainment district, Crystals, will feature more than 500,000 square feet of retail and dining. The residential towers, Veer Towers, will house 670 condos.

The Destination & Travel Foundation has exceeded its goal of gathering $4 million in pledges for its Destination Excellence campaign. The foundation is the 501(c)(3) affiliate of the Destination Marketing Association International and the U.S. Travel Association. The Greater Fort Lauderdale CVB’s pledge of $100,000 put the capital campaign over its goal. The Destination & Travel Foundation Dinner on February 24, 2010, in Washington, D.C., will mark the official close of the fundraising phase of the Destination Excellence campaign. The campaign will address the issues of relevancy, technology and social responsibility for destinations.
